Kemp and Stevens has been providing services within the local area for over 120 years.
At Kemp & Stevens we are able to offer you a personal service that will ensure that you can arrange the funeral to meet your own individual requirements. We appreciate this is a difficult time for you and will do everything in our power to reassure you that all arrangements are in hand.
There has been an undertaker on our present site in the High Street since the early 1900’s. Ron Thorne was born and grew up in Alton, joining Mr Stevens as an apprentice in 1943. He married Sue in 1952 and they took over the running of the business on the death of Mr Stevens in 1960.
Their son Geoff spent four years training in London before joining the business full time in 1974.
Geoff married Gill in 1978. Today their two sons, Michael and Robin, are continuing to run the business, serving generations of the local community. Ably assisted by their dedicated team.
We offer all our services from our site in the heart of Alton, with purpose built Chapels of Rest and a modern mortuary facility, together with coffin workshops and garaging for our own fleet of funeral vehicles.
Here at Kemp and Stevens we offer an affordable prepaid funeral plan, Choice, so that you can arrange and pay for a funeral in advance. This will protect your family from rising costs and remove uncertainty about your wishes.
If you would like to talk to us about planning a funeral, or our Choice plan, please come and see us in any of our funeral homes, or if you’d rather we can arrange a home visit. We’re also available 24 hours a day on the phone so if you need anything please don’t hesitate to call your local funeral home.

Robin Thorne
Business Principal
Robin is the Business Principle at Kemp & Stevens. He holds the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and is a licensed member of the BIFD and is responsible the day to day operation of the business.
Michael Thorne
Masonry Manager and Funeral Director
Michael also holds the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and is a licensed member of the BIFD. He manages K&S Memorials, arranging meaningful lasting tributes in stone and is a qualified memorial fixer.
