There has been an undertaker on our present site in the High Street since the early 1900’s. Ron Thorne was born and grew up in Alton, joining Mr Stevens as an apprentice in 1943. He married Sue in 1952 and they took over the running of the business on the death of Mr Stevens in 1960.
Their son Geoff spent four years training in London before joining the business full time in 1974.
Geoff married Gill in 1978. Today their two sons, Michael and Robin, are continuing to run the business, serving generations of the local community. Ably assisted by their dedicated team.
We offer all our services from our site in the heart of Alton, with purpose built Chapels of Rest and a modern mortuary facility, together with coffin workshops and garaging for our own fleet of funeral vehicles.
Here at Kemp and Stevens we offer an affordable prepaid funeral plan, Choice, so that you can arrange and pay for a funeral in advance. This will protect your family from rising costs and remove uncertainty about your wishes.

Business Principal
Robin is a 3rd generation Funeral Director and the Business Principle at Kemp & Stevens. He holds the NAFD Diploma in Funeral Directing and is a licensed member of the BIFD and is responsible the day-to-day operation of the business. Robin is married with two children and lives in Alton.
Area Development Manager
Having started out as an FSO at Kemp & Stevens in the early stages of his career back in 2008 he progressed from FSO, to Funeral Director, completing his NAFD diploma in 2012 with and worked as General Manager for Thorne-Leggett that became part of the Funeral Partners family in 2021.
Since then, he has gone from Funeral Manager to progress to Area Development Manager, helping to ensure the team best serve the families we look after by supporting them and maintaining the Funeral Partners core values. He likes to work closely with the team to maintain the highest standards and promoting best practice in the communities we serve.
Diary Manager
Jack started out as an FSO with Kemp & Stevens and progressed to Senior FSO and was recently promoted to Diary Manager. Jack oversees the day to day logistics for the business and also conducts funerals for Kemp & Stevens.
